Tourism in the Hill Country
Fredericksburg is the star of tourism in the Hill Country. It is a town founded as a German settlement in the mid-nineteenth century, located in Gillespie County, with a population of around 10,000. The main industry here is tourism, with people coming to see the architecture which hasn't changed since its founding. It shares many characteristics with New Braunfels and Boerne, the other German towns nearby. People flock here to shop for jewelry, antiques, household items, clothes...all with a real rural style. There are good places to eat, and the local wine is famous. You can see everything in half a day.
