Le fan club du chanteur entreprit en 1996 l'édification d'une statue en l'honneur de Freddie Mercury, L'opération s'étant avérée impossible à Londres, on a opté pour Montreux, et depuis, la ville est devenu un véritable lieu de pèlerinage pour tout adepte du groupe Queen et de son leader.
