The Boss of the Square
The statue of Pizarro reins over the main square of Trujillo and is one of three works by the historic Charles Cary Rumsey. The other two are in Lima, Peru and Buffalo, New York. So, why Trujillo? Well, because that’s where the conquistador was born and that’s where his statue has been since 1929.
It’s also an homage to numerous other citizens of Trujillo who, along with Pizarro, participated in the discovery of Peru. Aside from the statue, there’s also a fountain in the square. These are the only two items and the plaza is an otherwise a spacious, wide, and of course gorgeous place.
