Natural Park of the Red Fountain

The “La Font-rotja” sanctuary, the red spring dominated the gully of the valley and the mountains surrounding Alcoy. If you’re coming from the south of Alicante, you’re surely be surprised by the sudden change between the south of the province and the area surrounding Alcoy, just 50 km away from the sea.

You can reach the sanctuary from the southern part of the city. There’s plenty of signs to help you get there. You’ll travel along a pretty road with progressively more impressive views. You’ll end up at the parking lot just in front of the sanctuary’s doors. The town hall building-museum is right next door, as well.

Earlier this summer I decided to take a tour of this natural area which is mostly populated with oaks and pines and the foot of the mountain is usually dominated by fields sown with wheat. This natural setting is perfect for hiking.
