Crossing the Rio de la Plata from Tiger river station, it can be reached in just over 2 hours: an Uruguayan port of Carmelo. The quiet village does not have much charm, unlike its surroundings, which are breathtakingly beautiful. The gently rolling landscape and old Carmelo, dotted with historic chapels, ponds, and abandoned limestone quarries, has been discovered by entrepreneurs and visionaries years ago. First there was an amazing development called El Faro constructed there, then the Four Seasons hotel opened a hotel on the coast. Later, Argentine businessmen bought old farms and turned them into little paradises, some of which have restaurants and tiny inns to the select few travelers who come to this part of Uruguay.
Narbonne Farm La Finca make cheese and wine. Beyond its good quality, the place leaves one speechless. Between vineyards, ancient barns and dovecotes, the winery, which has been refurbished with incredible taste, has enabled a lounge that serves as the restaurant and 'lodge', with 2 rooms decorating elegantly. In the restaurant you can ry the cheese and wine from Narbonne and a selection of homemade meals from Uruguay and Argentina. Homemade pasta, meat, salads, and sausages, served in plates with antique silverware, almost as if we lived in colonial times.
