Festivals of San Cayetano

En la calle de San Cayetano, (Lavapiés / La Latina) se celebran las fiestas más castizas de Madrid, en realidad son 3 fiestas seguidas: San Cayetano, San Lorenzo y La Paloma, que recorren Cascorro, van hacia Lavapiés y vuelven luego a La Latina. Son unas fiestas muy tradicionales y muy visitadas por los madrileños y los turistas, ya que se celebran en verano. Se suelen instalar barras en la calle y la gente se viste con el traje típico de Madrid. Concretamente San Cayetano se celebra el 7 de agosto, principalmente en la zona de Cascorro y del Rastro además de en la calle que le da nombre a la fiesta. Es costumbre en esta fiesta que, al término de la procesión (el día 7 por la tarde), los fieles tomen una de las flores de la carroza, ya que existe la creencia de que quien reza al santo y coge una flor tendrá pan y trabajo todo el año. Esta creencia está tan extendida que muchas personas, ante el temor de no llegar a tiempo, se lanzan sobre la carroza a medio camino, produciéndose en los últimos metros una avalancha humana casi imposible de contener. Las calles del barrio (San Cayetano, del Oso y Cabestreros) son adornadas por los vecinos.
