Fun way to celebrate Holi in Los Angeles
Indulge in an Indian tradition in Los Angeles at the Festival of Colors. This event started in 2012, takes place in March, and offers visitors hours of live entertainment and music that will make you want to dance. There’s also yoga, crafts, free samples of things like chai tea, and more. It’s actually quite unbelievable that admission is only $5. Since it is a festival of colors, it’s wise to wear a white shirt you don’t care about because you’ll get drenched in colored powder. (It comes off easily, though, especially when washed with bleach.) Expect to get shoes and bottoms dirty as well. Admission to the festival is only $5! And color packets are only $3 each.
But it actually isn’t entirely necessary to purchase packets – unless you’d really like that much color – because people randomly throw colors up in the air all day and people will smear each other with colors. This is a positive, fun-filled event and is a wonderful way to experience a Hindu tradition. Paid parking is available in lots across Excelsior High School, where the festival takes place.
