Father David's Arboretum

Father Armand David was a scientist who specialized in Natural History and went to China as a missionary. He traveled around the country studying its birds, mammals, insects and plants. Later, when a delegation of Espelette left for the monastery of Deng Xi Gu, China, which is where Father David discovered the panda, he had the impression of having a piece of Espelette right there in front of him. So they decided to bring a piece of China to Espelette by creating this small arboretum in honor of the great work carried out by Father David. Now we see about 60 trees and shrubs from 15 different species
