One of Lanzarote's best beaches

Excellent

Playa de Famara is one of the best beaches on the island of Lanzarote, and it's especially good because you can get there on public transportation (no small feat on Lanzarote!). The city beaches on the Canary Islands are pleasant, but you still can't escape the feeling of being in the city surrounded by tourists and hotels. Well, check with the front desk at your hotel and ask for the bus to Caleta de Famara, a small, sleepy surfing village towards the north of the island.

When you arrive, you'll find an absolutely massive beach which runs along a curved bay and offers stunning views of the hulking seaside cliffs, the white-washed village of Farmara and the wind-whipped surf which has made this beach so popular among surfers.

A Great View

Famara has a well deserved fame as a surfing beach, and it might be the most accessible one in the entire island of Lanzarote, where you can practice this sport. Even if the weather is not good for surfing (that is, if there is no wind), it still is the longest beach in the island, and one of the prettiest.

Famara can offer the visitor incredible sunsets, with the reflected rays of the sun over the waves, which will delight your eye and camera.

Surfing the Wind

Excellent

What a pretty beach! I exclaimed from the top of the dunes: the waves, the wind, the cliff that guides the winds.

It is ideal for surfers, since it is really windy, so windy that I couldn’t even lay my towel on the sand, not even with 2 km stones. Despite this, I was able to see a beach where the sunset clears our senses and diffuse the lights we perceive.

Beautiful and Spectacular Landscape

This magnificent beach of fine dun colored sand was quite a discovery on my second trip to Lanzarote, at the foot of the Risco de Famara, and together they form one of the most beautiful and spectacular landscapes of the island.

It is an uncomfortable beach when it is too windy, and quite dangerous because of the waves. It is ideal for surfers (not me), but it is also good for walking along it, since it is practically deserted, another reason to go there and relax.
