Fabric Workshop

The manager of my hotel in San Cristobal de las Casas, asked me what did I want to do with the rest of my day, and when I said I was interested in Mayan craftsmanship he gave me the chance to visit a factory. The factory is located within a hotel, as they are run by the same owners. They don't make dresses really, they mostly make tablecloths, fabric, bedspreads ... And it is done by men. There are five men and only one woman working. A bit like the old tile machines, the factory also has machines where they put paper with holes and balls, which tells the machine what to make. A man works the pedals that raise and lower different colored threads.
