Esculture to the Woman ("La Gorda")

This urban sculpture is in the Calle Mayor, the most central street in Palencia. It is pedestrianised and where the main shops in the city are found. It was made by Indalecio Lopez in 1998, and is a monument dedicated to women. It consists of a large granite pedestal circular (which acts as a bank), on which stands a statue depicting a woman of enormous proportions, obese, popularly nicknamed as "la Gorda" (the fat one).
