Historic school
This rural school is located in the Curruhuinca Mapuche community, and was first built in 1919. The creation of this school was an express order of the chief Abel Curruhuinca Dr. Francisco P. Moreno, best known as the Perito Moreno, who was then the President of the National Education Council. It is nestled inside the Lanin National Park. We really loved walking in this area, among the oaks, hearing the crunch of the carpet of leaves that covered everything golden and reddish tones during the autumn.
The school is built out of wood and perfectly manicured. Its story was told in a 2008 film, and features the Mapuche language teachers and community members from Curruhuinca, including Lonko (considered the spiritual director of the community).
