Nature's Surprises

There are many interesting spots in Cuenca. The city itself is lovely, and so is the Ventano del Diablo, the source of the Cuervo River and, of course, the Enchanted City: its best kept secret. It consists of a group of really impressive natural rock formations.

In order to see it all there is a 3 kilometers long and signposted road, where one can see formations in different shapes: the boats, the dog, the face of the man, the seal, the slide, the turtle...

It was declared as a Natural Site of National Interest in 1920 and, since then, has been one of the most popular attractions in Cuenca and in all Spain.

Fanciful shapes

The Enchanted City (La Ciudad Encantada) is a very lovely and surprising natural spot of rocky or chalky formations sculpted by nature in fanciful shapes throughout thousands of years. It is located in the old municipal district of Valdecabras, now belonging to the district of Cuenca, in a large zone of pine forest and 1,500 meters high. It was declared Natural Site of National Interest on June 11th 1929.

The action of water, wind and ice made this natural place possible, its scientific name being "karstic phenomenon". The heterogeneity of the rocks in terms of morphology, chemical composition

Oneiric

One of the spots one really can't miss in Spain. A unique place not only because of its dreamy rock formations but also thanks to the exceptional natural surroundings: the beautiful Serranía de Cuenca.

I recommend taking a walk through the City in the late afternoon, when the sun is coming down and there are less people, and after having had lunch outside in one of the pine forests nearby. Afterwards one can end the day by having a beer or coffee in one of the restaurants that are very close to the City. A gorgeous place!

Incredible!

Very worth seeing! It is very close to the Ventano del Diablo and it offers the opportunity to have a walk in nature between huge rocks of incredible shapes. The formations have been created by the sea, which, a long time ago, would reach the center of the Iberian Peninsula. The entrance costs 3€ and is worth the approximately one hour-long walk.

Muy bonito.

Excellent

No volvería porque te cobran 5 euros por entrar (es un espacio natural que creo que debería estar a disponibilidad de todos sin coste), pero no puedes visitar cuenca sin pasar por la ciudad encantada.
