Elisengarten

Este é um pequeno parque no centro histórico de Aachen. Ele é delimitado por ruas tão antigas quanto do século XII, e nomeado em homenagem à princesa Elisabeth Ludovika von Bayern. Escavações encontraram pegadas datadas do Neolítico naquela região da cidade. Desde então sempre houve lá alguma atividade. O Elisengarten em si é do século XIX, mas tinha outra configuração e até fontes de água termal. No século seguinte ele foi redesenhado, aumentado e até abrigou estruturas de guerra. Finalmente, já nos anos 2000, ele foi novamente redesenhado e tornou-se o parque que é nos dias de hoje. Ganhou um extenso gramado em degraus, onde sempre há pessoas sentadas a descansar ou fazer um lanche, fontes e uma exposição permanente das escavações arqueológicas do local. O Elisengarten está muito próximo à catedral, o prédio da prefeitura, e a muitas ruas com comércio e lugares para comer e beber.
