Get the pork cheeks...trust me!
El Rincon de Manolo is quickly becoming my go-to place for greasy sandwich goodness to top off an afternoon of drinking in Madrid’s Lavapies neighborhood. This butcher shop / sandwich stand is located in the back of the Mercado de San Fernando, a place which in recent years has undergone a transformation from traditional neighborhood market to local foodie destination as young entrepreneurs have set up shop selling everything from organic wines to sushi.
Manolo, the man at the helm of the operation, is awesome. After normal market hours when the market fills up with tapas-hungry locals, Manolo switches on his grill and serves up satisfying grilled bocadillos with ingredients such as chorizo, pork loin, pancetta and, my personal favorite, thinly-sliced pork cheeks. Manolo himself is as friendly as can be and serves up his sandwiches with a smile and the gusto of a man ve takes pride in his work. Oh, and the fact that most sandwiches are priced at a very reasonable 2 euros or so makes it all the better.
