l'Ametlla de Mar
The harbour in L'Ametlla de Mar is run...
The harbour in L'Ametlla de Mar is run by the Comisión de Puertos de Catalunya, which is dependent on the Catalan Government. The construction of the harbour started in 1929 and it was the only harbour in Catalonia that was used exclusively for fishing until 1986.
The new sales unit.It is located in La Ribera wharf in the new area of the harbour. It separates the fishing area of the port from the marina.
The building is one large, rectangular, open-plan structure with a gable roof. It is interesting to notice the large wooden arches which make up the main body of its structure. These are clearly visible because of the see-through divisions that separate the different areas related to the sale of fish within the building.
The upper part of the façade is made of glass, so the surrounding area, boats and sea are clearly visible from inside the building. The sales are run by the Fishermen's Association. The fish auction takes place every working day from 4:00 p.m. onwards with the exception of the months of May and June due to the fish preservation season.
