view of Lake Peté Itza
After a pretty boring road between the region of Petén and Flores, the view of Lake Peté Itza, perspective of good dips, grilled fish and a rest day makes me happy. Be careful when go through the "border" between Petén and Izabal, you can't take vegetables and fruit due to parasitic flies that Petén want's to avoid.
Other Guatemalans apparently it can eat. Every vehicle is searched for fruit, and if it's found, they throw it away. The road becomes green, going into the jungle, the pyramids of Tikal, the Mayan biosphere. Guatemala is the end of the Cowboys, where animals are kept, thousands and thousands of cows over hundreds of acres stolen from the Indians.
It's the last 100km before the Belize border. The last 15km or so to get to the border of Benque Viejo, are unpaved, and vehicles have to slow down. They take advantage of it to rob some people, I cheat security again by biking to the bus. There are no problems at the border, they just asked about my bike a lot, the price, because it was so cheap (to not pay taxes, they had divided by 2!) Etc, and a stamp on the passport, saying that I have to leave the country WITH Bike!
