Kept in the Past
The area of Villa de Leiva is very arid now, but more than 65 million years ago, it was full of water and prehistoric marine animals lived there. It's very easy to find fossils and the Fossil Museum belongs to the Paleontology Museum of the National University, which has displayed not only thousands of fossils, but also a baby Kronosaurus, which is the main interest of most visitors. It was found in 1977 and the residents of the village of Moniquirá prevented its transfer to a specialized centre. You can purchase ammonite fossils from the townspeople (we have one at home). The museum is simple, however, I believe that it should be more impressive, given the importance of the treasure it holds.
