I've always loved the statues in terra cotta that fill the chapels of Sacro Monte de Varese, and especially those titled "Los Mysteres joyeux" about the life of Jesus, chapters from the Annunciation to the resurrection of Jesus in the temple. They are works of great seventeenth century artists like Lombards Morazzone, Antonio Busca, the Lampugnani, Carlo Francesco Nuvolone, Prestinari brothers Giovanni Ghisolfi, Martino Retti, Dionigi Bussola and Francesco Silva brothers. The Life-size statues are in front of a fresh decoration chasing the illusion of reality. The expression on their faces is really surprising, as seen in the photos.
