The abbey of the Scottish kings

Excellent

This airs abbey cathedral is one of the most important in the country of Scotland. Constructed in the year1072 by King David I 'the king who thought Scotland' in honor of his mother, Queen and Saint Margaret. The abbey was governed by the order of the Benedictines. Due to its date of construction the original style is Romanesque, but you can see elements of later styles added during reconstructions or extensions of the original construction. One element to note is the tomb of King Robert I 'The Brus' who defeated the English in Scotland gaining independence and the inscription at the top of the central tower: ROBERT KING + THE BRUCE, which gives a more innovative and original touch. The condition (exterior and interior) is incredible and you can visit it almost entirely, depending on the time of year, as there are parts that are closed in winter, as the zone where the graves are.

The abbey itself is open to visitors all year round and it is certainly the main focus of the city, especially for history buffs. Perhaps the interior, completely empty it a bit disappointing for the visitor, but I think the whole visit worthwhile, as I said after this is one of the most emblematic buildings (although somewhat of the least visited) the country. While in the area, a corner to keep in mind that should not be overlooked.
