Façade Renaissance
Sur la butte, le Palais Ducal dispute la vedette à la cathédrale. Ce bâtiment "civil", à la belle façade Renaissance ponctuée par trois tourelles polygonales, est considéré par certains comme le premier des Châteaux de la Loire.
Ce fut la résidence des Comtes puis des Ducs de Nevers. C'est la famille de Clèves à qui on doit la façade du XVIè siècle et l'escalier monumental. Les bas-reliefs sont modernes : ils évoquent la légende du "Chevalier au Cygne", ancêtre de la maison de Clèves.
On the mound, the Ducal Palace fight the star at the cathedral. This "civil" building, the beautiful Renaissance façade punctuated by three polygonal turrets, is considered by some as the first of the Loire Valley. It was the residence of the Counts and Dukes of Nevers. This is the family of Cleves who must be the front of the sixteenth century and the monumental staircase. The reliefs are modern: they evoke the legend of "Swan Knight", the ancestor of the house of Cleves.
