At about 60kilometers to the west of Kargil Drass is an area where the tents of the nomadic herders dominate, the icy peaks and glaciers. It is the second inhabited "colder" place in the world. So far it can only be reached in summer when the snow thaws. The town, as such, doesn' exist!, It's just a huge flat area where traffic stops before crossing the Great Himalayan mountains on the way to Srinagar, further to the west. At night it is forbidden to travel, and by day you can only travel in only one direction for half the day and in the other half in the other direction. The road is extremely dangerous as you can not do otherwise.
