A sculpture in honor of Fungie
Fungie is a dolphin that appeared in Dingle Bay back in 1984. The reasons are unknown why he came to the bay and has stayed for all these years. According to the locals, Fungies' partner died near the bay and he never left ... well, is a romantic assumption ... If you want to,you can go to Dingle harbor where several boats a day go to see the dolphin. In the same port you will see a sculpture in honor of Fungie. It's funny because the tour is worth 16 euros but you don't have to pay if he doesn't appear. So if one day Fungie doesn't appear, no on pays, although it's almost guaranteed that you will see him.
The journey takes one hour (the timetable is in the port office) and before the end of the bay you'll see Fungie. He does not want food or anything special, just appears and jumps. I loved seeing the old dolphin, and I say old because as I said before Fungie first appeared in '84 and dolphins live for about 25 years. What will happen when Fungie dies? ...
