Del Diego Cocktail Bar

Del Diego is a cocktail bar that you must visit for all the mixed drinks they have. Many people, myself included, claim they serve the best drinks in all of Madrid. It’s located next to the Plaza Vazquez de Mella.

The first thing I noticed upon entering was the fantastic lime scent overflowing from the bar. Walk in and sit down, a giant cocktail menu is already there waiting for you. I’d order them all, but little by little. I had read great things about Gimlet so I decided to give it a try. We also ordered a piña colada. Both drinks were fantastic. Great decisions. They’ll bring you an appetizer to accompany you drink, depending on the type of cocktail you order. In our case, they brought potatoe chips and salted crackers.

Del Diego is one of these places and has spent the last 22 years serving the best cocktails in Madrid. Don’t expect one of those trendy, ubiquitous flavored gin and tonics with a cute straw. What’s important here are the precise measurements necessary to make a perfect-tasting, classic cocktail. Under Don Diego’s recommendations, I ordered a Broker’s Premium London Gin (11 euros) and it was a marvelous choice. After my years of gin-drinking experience, I’m convinced that many cocktail bars give you low-quality spirits (known locally as garrafón) at a top-shelf price.
