Defensive System
The castle was originally built on top of a 14th century stone fortress. In the 15th century, the time of Ioan of Hunedoara, it was renovated several times. The military building was transformed into a residence, but with the most advanced defensive system of the time. In the 17th century, the Corvin family added other aspects, but it remained a residence and fortress. The defensive terrace is where munitions were stored. The defensive terrace and the white town were built at the same time during the early part of the 17th century when Gabriel Bethlen was the owner. It has perforated walls that allowed the soldiers to hide, but still see and shoot.
