Deansway Shopping
Deansway was formed in the 19th century by merging together several medieval streets: Merrivale, Birdport, behind the steeple of Saint Andrew. Until the 1930s, this part of the city retained its medieval feel, with low terraced houses, mostly built in the 16th or 17th century out of wood. The streets were narrow, and not adapted to the growth of the population in Worcester. Between 1930 and 1960, access to the river was improved, and the neighbourhood became the place to go shopping.
