Walk through history

The views from the walls are fabulous. Being about to walk next to such historical structures is quite breathtaking. They’re in a good state of conservation and it’s worth seeing them, they’re spectacular.

If you can make it to the highest part of the city, at the foot of the cathedral, you’ll enjoy a great view, although it’s pretty steep…

The taxi driver took us as high as he could and then we had to walk the rest of the way, before heading back down to the sea. It was much more relaxed walking and let us see the cute streets and the entrance with the arch and elevated gate.

Famous medieval walls

Besides the famous renaissance walls, Dalt Vila also is home to some medieval walls of Islamic origin. There were maintained and restored after the reconquest and are perfectly integrated in the urban life of Dalt Vila.

Along San Josep street you can see part of the stretch that separates the medieval section from the other. You can see towers from the 10th and 11th centuries.

Passing through Dalt Vila

Once you’ve gone by the wall, it’s like you’ve entered in another world where the color white invades your senses. The steep streets invites you to follow them until you make it to the highest part of the city, with views of the port and the small islands off the coast, the color of the water and the island of Formentera off in the distance. These views make the walk up the hill more than worth it, even on the hottest of days.
