Encounter with Dead People
The funeral culture in Tana Toraja is a unique experience. For centuries the people here have buried their dead in holes dug into vertical rock walls to new entrants to the bamboo scaffolding. The culture here says that the bodies of the dead can not touch the ground, hence the vertical placement. As time evolved into creating a coffin houses a very special way, with roofs that are shaped like an inverted bow of boat, and they preserved the bodies of their relatives.
