Castle that housed two noble families

In the Scottish Borders, South of Scotland on the border with England, the birthplace of Sir Walter Scott , we can find many forts, castles and homes which in earlier times had a significant defensive function, its position and ambitions imperial British nation. Crichton Castle is an example of this. Situated in the middle of nowhere, on a hill by the river Tyne, this castle (constructed in the 15th century) hosted 2 noble familes of Scotland: The Crichton and the Earls of Bothwell Hailes. It played an important role for members of the monarchy as was the case of Mary "Queen of the Scots", cousin of Queen Elizabeth I, who took refuge in the castle for a short period of time.
