A great alternative trip
Craigmillar is the third castle of Edinburgh. It's the furthest south and a mile walk from the famous castle in the capital of Scotland. Because of its location (away from the tourist routes) and history, it is typically completely ignored by visitors. However, It is one of the oldest central towers of Scotland and was the official residence of Mary Queen of the Scots, which in some ways could be more significant than the Edinburgh Castle to the locals. Both towers, however, share several episodes in history. This tower was the first point of defense of the city in case of attack by the south.
