Couvent des Clarisses

Fondé en 1212 par Claire d'Assise, sous la tutelle de Saint-François, l'ordre féminin des Clarisses s'installe à Montignac à la fin du XIVème siècle près du couvent des frères franciscains. Elles vont y loger jusqu'au milieu du XVIIIème siècle avant que celui-ci ne soit reconverti en hospice, en remplacement de l'hôpital Saint Jean devenu trop petit. Aujourd'hui, cet ancien couvent accueille le centre socio-culturel louis Aragon, regroupant à la fois la bibliothèque, le centre-culturel, la trésorerie et le centre médico-social de Montignac. La petite chapelle est vraiment incroyable, comme enracinée dans cet espace mais hors de toute temporalité, transfigurant ce décor de manière éblouissante. Elle forme un ensemble, avec la cour intérieure et cet arbre impressionnant, dont l'ombre est projetée sur le mur du couvent, à la fois lumineux et chargé d'histoire.
