Count Don Tello Monument

Al entrar en Gernika encuentro esta plaza, que tras su reconstrucción después de la Guerra Civil alberga el ayuntamiento, la casa de la cultura y el Museo de la Paz, además del monumento a Don Tello. En el mismo centro de la plaza del ayuntamiento encontramos la estatua del Conde D. Tello, fundador de la villa de Gernika en 1366 (esta obra realizada en 1966 por Agustín de la Herrán, fue encargada para conmemorar la fundación de la villa). Don Tello con vestimenta de época surge de un pedestal de mármol (en el que podemos contemplar incrustaciones de bronce con el nombre de las comarca de Vizcaya) con la espada en una mano en señal de fuerza y un pergamino en la otra que se supone es el Fuero de la Villa. Su la inscripción de su pedestal reza: “AL CONDE DON TELLO, SEÑOR DE VIZCAYA, FUNDADOR DE GERNICA MCCCLXVI-MCMLXVI".

Upon entering Gernika I find this square, which after its reconstruction after the Civil War houses the town hall, the house of culture and the Peace Museum, in addition to the monument to Don Tello.
