The Caprera of Garibaldi

The heroic Italian patriot Giuseppe Garibaldi chose the Sardinian island of Caprera to live out his final years. In fact, it was here at 6:22pm on June 2, 1882 that he breathed his last breath surrounded by his family and his wife Francesca Armosino (as a curious side-note, a clock by his deathbed still marks the time of his death). For some time, Garibaldi, then 75 years old, was confined to a wheelchair, many of which are still found in the home today. You can also visit various rooms of the house and see his uniforms, personal effects, last will and testament, deathbed, and, most importantly, his grave.

The home of Garibaldi

Giuseppe Garibaldi is considered the father of Italy because he was the one who fought for her unification. Garibaldi was born in Nice (which was part of Piedmont at the time) and he died on the island of Caprera. If you want to know more about the father of modern Italy, you should visit the home where spent the final years of his life. Admission to the museum is €5 and, unfortunately, you can't take photos inside.
