An ancient university
With a history that begins in 1400, the Collegium Maius is the most ancient university building in Poland and popular among its students was fortunate to have Nicholas Copernico. The "Colegio Mayor" is an attractive example of fifteenth century gothic architecture that has a pleasant courtyard surrounded by arches built of brick and stone. Collegium Maius houses the Museum of the University Jagellnica, where you can see an extensive collection of historic instruments used for astronomy, meteorology, cartography, physics and chemistry, which are displayed in the different rooms of the building .
Perfect for a small visit. One of the special attractions of the Collegium Maius is the old clock in the yard, where every two hours peculiar carvings parade accompanied by a nice melody. It is interesting to see the clock running, although the visit to the school is not a must, as it is a guided tour that is somewhat long.
