Beautiful village

Colio is a beautiful Cantabrian village located in the heart of the Picos de Europa. It's a very small town (it has scarcely more than 70 inhabitants), but has an irresistible charm due, firstly, to its location in the midst of a unique and spectacular landscape. Secondly, it's one of the few remaining places where you can still see authentic Cantabrian culture and traditions.

The houses that make up this town are mostly stone and have few windows so as to protect against the cold in winter and keep cool in summer. The streets are unpaved and a quick walk will reveal items and traditions that have long since been abandoned in cities, the wearing of clogs, for instance.

The locals are very friendly and simple and always happy to engage in conversation. This is also a very popular destination among backpackers looking to explore the mountains.

Despite its small size, Colio is home to a majestic church with a really impressive steeple. Colio is one of those places where you can forget about the stress and rush of daily life. It's a perfect place to enjoy nature and find some peace and quiet.
