Dewailly Clock

Située en plein cœur du quartier piéton et commerçant de la capitale picarde, Amiens, l'horloge Dewailly est l'une des curiosités architecturales et patrimoniales de la ville, à ne pas manquer. Elle fut en effet édifiée en 1892 grâce à la générosité d'un ancien maire d'Amiens, baptisé Dewailly, afin de permettre à tous les amiénois dont les moyens financiers ne permettent pas d'acquérir une montre d'utiliser néanmoins le train, qui fait alors son apparition dans la région. Elle est ornée d'une jolie statue souvent appelée Marie Sans Chemise, a été miraculeusement épargnée par les destructions de la seconde guerre mondiale mais néanmoins retirée en 1965. Finalement, elle fut réinstallée en l'an 2000 par Gilles de Robien.

Cette magnifique horloge a été construite à la demande et grâce aux fonds de l'ancien maire d'Amiens Louis Dewailly. Ce sont Emile Ricquier (sculpteur) et Albert Roze (sculpteur amiénois). Après de longues années de réalisation, l'œuvre fut achevée le 17 novembre 1898. Par la suite cette horloge résista aux bombardements de 1940 et aujourd'hui encore il est possible d'en admirer le travail très précis de la sculpture.
