Citadel of Port Louis

A big hill from the city, which is flat until the fort is perched on top of a volcanic mountain. The name comes from Queen Adelaide, and it was constructed between the years 1834 and 1840, under the direction of William IV. At 240 meters above sea level, Fort Adelaide, known as "The Citadel" has fulfilled its purpose of protecting the harbor against enemies and fire. Today, thanks to the efforts of the City to maintain this cultural heritage, it is the only one of 4 forts constructed in Port Louis, that is not in ruins. Views from the top include the city in a 360 º and it is a must to see the real Mauritian capital.
