Citadelle de St-Tropez

Es una pena que una ciudad como Saint Tropez, rica y famosa, de la que se habla año tras año, no dedique un poco más de inversión en mantener sus joyas arquitectónicas. La Ciudadela, la vieja fortificación que corona la colina de Saint Tropez, permanece a la espera de que alguien se dedique a invertir en su infraestructura mirando con envidia y desde lo alto a los pulcros y despreocupados decorados del centro de la ciudad. Ya de por sí la subida llama la atención. Si quieres un poco de aventura y acercarte a las murallas andando, en vez de subir en coche por la carretera asfaltada, la sorpresa son una centena de escalones excavados en la arena y cubiertos con tablas. Tienen su encanto, también, lo reconozco. Arriba sólo nos queda rezar porque sea uno de los días en los que la fortaleza abre a los visitantes. No fue mi caso, por lo que me tuve que limitar a ver el patio de entrada y rodear las murallas para disfrutar de las vistas. Según parece, aunque hubiera estado abierta sólo hubiéramos podido visitar un par de dependencias, ya que las demás están en obras. Una pena, porque esta fortaleza es célebre por ser uno de los bastiones de defensa más efectivos contra los piratas berberiscos. Pero bueno, el esfuerzo valió la pena y la vista compensó el cierre. La bahía de Saint Tropez es un regalo para los ojos de un valor incalculable.

C'est sur la colline des Moulins à la fin du XVIe siècle qu'un premier aménagement défensif est construit. Au début du 17eme, le donjon hexagonal vint compléter le dispositif, qui constitue alors l'un des bâtiments principaux pour la défense de la Cité. Enfin, au 19eme siècle son utilitée va décroissante et la citadelle se délabre. Achetée par la commune en 1993, classée Monument Historique, elle est restaurée et transformée en musée maritime. Musée qui depuis quelques années à été transféré à Toulon ( au grand désespoir de ceux qui comme moi n'était pas au courant et on fait 15 Km à vélo en plein été pour finalement voir … une exposition d'Art moderne !!!)

La citadelle de Saint-Tropez se trouve dans les hauteurs de la ville. Il s'agit d'un fort construit pendant les guerres de religion au XVIème siècle pour protéger la baie de Saint-Tropez des attaques Espagnoles. Par la suite, la France s'allia aux Espagnols et le fort servit à repousser les attaques Anglaises. Il servit également pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale aux Allemands pour scruter l'horizon. Ce fort a une visée dissuasive et non défensive : Le peuple ne venait pas s'y réfugier en cas de conflit armé. Il a une particularité, c'est d'être de forme hexagonale et bordé de trois lignes de défense. Ainsi, si l'ennemi réussissait à franchir les lignes de défense et pénétrer le fort, il se trouvait cerné de tous côtés par les soldats retranchés à l'étage qui versaient de l'eau bouillante. Je vous conseille de suivre la visite guidée afin de découvrir plus amplement toutes les techniques d'attaques et de retranchements utilisées par les soldats des deux camps à l'époque car c'est vraiment très intéressant. La Citadelle est ouverte tous les jours, de 10h à 18h en saison et de 10h à 12h et 13h30 à 17h en hors-saison. Fermeture les jours fériés (1er novembre, 25 décembre, 1er janvier, 1er et 17 mai, le jour de l'ascension et le 15 août)
