Church of the Oak
This church was built in 1854 and is located in May 15 Street and Juarez Street where, in 1592, the Friar Andrés de Leon, a Franciscan missionary, hid the image of the Virgin in the trunk of an oak tree, to protect it from indigenous nomads and 'savages'. This oak was the basis for this temple which was built in the style of Roman basilicas using the current techniques and architectural expressions.
