Church of the Hill

The church on the hill was built in 1345. Originally it was another twelfth-century Romanesque church. It is built on top of the hill of Sighisoara. Some, but below it is the medieval village, and is surrounded by an impressive defensive wall. The church was the most inaccessible in case of invasion, as if it were the most important in the whole city, which wanted to protect at all costs. The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas, who performed miracles according to legend, had rescued three children and a butcher had placed salt in their wounds and restored them to life. The church is built in German Gothic style.
