Only the bell tower and a small chapel
The Cordeliers were installed in Avignon in 1226, they were poor monks who begged for food, and were called Cordeliers because of the rope leading into the hip. Their convent was outside the walls at the time, beside the river Sorgues and near Imbert gate. The church, very big, ended only in 1350. Many wealthy families in the city asked to be buried there, such as the Sade family. In 1791 a notary was brought to the church and killed in the nave, that was the beginning of the terrible massacres of La Glaciere. The place was sold as state property after the French Revolution, when religion was totally rejected and the church was largely destroyed.
