The most important church in Asenova
This church is situated in the neighborhood of Asenova, Veliko Tarnovo, and it is dedicated to Saint Demetrius, patron of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. Asen and Petur nobles began a revolt against Byzantine power and this led to the creation of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom, the time of the czars Tsarevets. Petur became tsar. We were not allowed to enter becasue it was closed at the time, despite arriving before 18pm, it is decorated with medieval frescoes. Pentaédrico has an apse and a design in a cross domed with a narthex and a flat space in the apse. It was part of a large monastery attached to the southeast.
The 1913 earthquake, which happened in the thirteenth century, forced local residents to the exodus, the church turned into rubble, but was restored in 1977-1985. The exterior of the church is decorated with blind arches and colorful decorations: glass rosettes, suns, diamonds and other painted figures. The church was built of stone alternating with three rows of bricks.
