Simonetta Di Zanutto
A magnificent interior
This is near the shore because in 1787, when it was built, Trieste was an important trading port thanks to the presence of Greek merchants. The church dedicated to St. Nicholas has an almost anonymous, very sober exterior, and would risk going unnoticed were it not for the uniqueness of the two towers, which overlook the sea and can be seen from afar. The interior, however, is the most magnificent one can imagine: gold and lights dotting every corner of the nave of the church. It is said that women wanting to conceive should rub the door, and their wish will be fulfilled.
