Chiquimulilla Canal

The Chiquimulilla canal is an artificial channel that runs from the border with El Salvador, at the height of Las Lisas, to the port of San José, and is used to transport timber and shrimp, as well as people sometimes, because some towns aren't reachable by road, such as Jiote. Nature here is very beautiful, the mangrove swamp is here and you can see a lot of birds if you go early in the morning, and some hotels provide canoes to go alone. Bring a full container of mosquito repellent! You have to cross the channel to go to the beach, Iztapa, the Monterrico, Las Lisas, and in short all the beaches of the Pacific coast between Iztapa and Savior.
