Chiesa di Maria SS. della Pietà e di San Giovanni Battista

E’ dedicata a Maria SS. Della Pietà ed a San Giovanni Battista, in realtà è conosciuta quale l’ “Antica Chiesa dei marinai di Procida”. Parliamo della struttura sita in Piazza Marina Grande la cui origine è legata ad un’associazione di mutuo soccorso a cui presero parte tutti gli armatori di barche e vascelli dell’isola al fine di prestare soccorso ai meno abbienti. Nacque così un luogo di venerazione che si trasformò in cappella e poi nell’attuale chiesa. Molto devoti a questa Madonna sono i Procidani che vedono qui l’emblema della propria tradizione marinara; all’interno della chiesa, infatti, vi è la statua lignea di Maria. All’esterno vi è la statua di Padre Pio, figura anch’essa molto sentita nel territorio procidano e campano tutto.

Outside there the statue of Padre Pio, the figure anchessa deeply felt in Procida and Campania everything.
