Chapels of Sain Croix
The chapels of Saint Croix (Santa Cruz) are on the banks of the beach by the same name. There are two chapels, one an ancient ruin and one a more modern chapel. The older of the two was built in the 12th century by Benedictine monks from Saint Genest, which they dedicated to the holy cross (Saint Croix). The sailors ve passed by the coast in boats called it Santo Terro, and there was a marine cemetery. It belonged to the Martigues parish until the French revolution. The penitents went on pilgrimages from Martiques on May 3rd and September 14th in honor of the Cross of the Savior. The masses are celebrated at Easter.
