The old chapel of the convent
The old chapel of the convent of San Carlos de la Cruz was built by Jean Baptiste Franque in the early eighteenth century. There's almost nothing left of the convent but the great gateway which faces an unfinished cloister and the chapel, also by Franque dating from 1749. The chapel was consecrated in 1758 and is notable for its type of construction and the arches of the choir, as well as the techniques used to carve and place the stones which are very elegant. The place became a barracks during the French Revolution, a seminar in 1824 and then a large part was destroyed to build a commissary.
