Savory island food in San Diego
There’s nothing quite like food from the islands, and Chamorro Grill in San Diego offers this kind of cuisine, which is found in the Northern Mariana Islands (a United States Commonwealth) and on the island of Guam. Chicken kelaguen with red rice is a staple you can never go wrong with, and the kelaguen at Chamorro Grill doesn’t disappoint. The kelaguen plate (and other plates) also comes with a side of delicious macaroni salad. There’s also some Filipino food here like the pancit and lumpia bowl. Depending on the season they also serve ahi poke. It’s a very simple dish without all the sauces, but it’s still good.
The BBQ Chicken and Beef plates are also a good choice, and if you want to make your soul happy (even if your body won’t be) you’ll want to order a spam musubi.
You can complete the whole Chamorro food experience with an order of King Car Lemon Tea and/or Assam Black Tea – popular beverages in the NMI and Guam.
Island food isn’t the healthiest, but it’s just so savory and hard to resist, especially at Chamorro Grill.
The restaurant is located in a plaza where there is free parking.
