Chafariz dos Jacarés (Fonte dos Amores)

O Chafariz dos Jacarés é uma das muitas obras primas de Mestre Valentim. Mas essa em especial chama a atenção do público e sempre me intrigou desde criança. Concebida para emular uma fonte natural, o chafariz foi construído com diversas pedras e na base desta, dois jacarés fazem a água jorrar de suas bocas (muitas partes do chafariz já não existem mais). A obra tem um toque de mestre e evoca os temas naturais do Brasil, mas o que chama mais atenção na mesma é a relação que esta construiu com uma lenda, pois segundo Câmara Cascudo, no local onde se ergue o Passeio Público, vivia a moça mais bonita da região, pela qual se apaixonou o vice-rei da época. Assim, os dois jacarés representavam esta paixão platônica que rendeu o nome de Fonte dos Amores a obra de Mestre Valentim.
