Chafariz de las Musas en el Botánico

Esta bellísima Fuente que se encuentra en un lugar muy destacado del Jardín Botánico y allí nomás de la ”Avenida de las Palmas Rodrigues”, fue otra de las adquisiciones que hiciera en el año 2005 el que fuera uno de sus más prolíficos directores de entonces Don Joâo Barbosa Rodrigues, un profesor, naturalista y botánico brasileño claramente interesado en el estudio de las Ciencias Naturales cuya avenida homenajea. Esta Fuente de hierro fundido procedente de Inglaterra es una obra del británico Herbert W. Hogg nacido en la ciudad de Derby en Inglaterra, la misma estuvo originariamente en el Barrio de Lapa, del que fue desmontada para ser instalada aquí. En ella pueden verse varías alegorías y las que más se destacan son las que hacen referencia a las Musas del Arte, la Música, la Poesía y las Ciencias. Según la mitología griega las Musas, al igual que Apolo, vivían en el “Monte Parnaso”, donde dicen estaba el “Oráculo de Delfos y han sido famosas por creerse que han servido de inspiración y han sido las protectoras de todos aquellos artistas especializados en las Ciencias y en las Artes. Dice la mitología que las Musas eran nueve e hijas de Zeus y Mnemósine. Uno de los versos de “Viaje del Parnaso” obra de Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra dice: “Grito un grumete y dijo: - El monte, el monte su buen rocín el gran Beleronfonte. Por el monte se arroja, y a pie viene Apolo a recibirnos…”
